4th March 1972.

When Paul May took over as Programme Director in February 1972 he introduced a new station chart, the Prediction Hit 40.

Some of the details of this chart were obtained from a recording shared by Scotty on the Radiotrefpunt (radio meeting point) forum, supplemented and confirmed with information from radiopedia.nl with grateful thanks to both.

* On the recording Tony refers to L'Avventura as being “last week's number one” but radiopedia.nl lists the record as number four the previous week and Without You as number 1.

A recording of some of this show was shared by Scotty on the Radiotrefpunt (radio meeting point) forum:

click to hear audio Tony Allan from the Prediction Hit 40 chart show of 4th March 1972. Later in the show, not on this clip, Tony plays a record he describes as “Barry Martin's Hit Pick”. Barry Martin was a new DJ who was about to join the station but, to the best of our knowledge, never did (duration 4 minutes 49 seconds)

The links from the songs on this page lead to the Amazon MP3 Store where you can hear short audio clips of the tracks and customers in the UK can buy downloads. Please see this note.

There are a number of other offshore charts listed on The Pirate Radio Hall of Fame. Full details here.

The most recent previous RNI chart we have is the British Top 20 from 26th December 1971.
The next one is from 25th March 1972.
