Stuart had worked in radio before, as an actor, and in television - see below - but he made his DJ-ing debut on Radio Scotland's first full day on the air, 1st January 1966. There is a clip from his first programme below, presented live from the ship. Sea-sickness prevented him staying on the Comet for long and his later shows were all recorded on land. Following the station closedown in 1967, he joined Radio One. He left the BBC in 1974, joining Radio Luxembourg the following year. These photographs span his career. Many thanks to all who contributed them. Sadly very few tapes seem to have survived from Stuart's time on Radio Scotland. (If you have any, please get in touch.) One of the great broadcasters of his generation, his career - and his life - were tragically cut short by multiple sclerosis. He died in November 1995.
Stuart filming for a Scottish Television advertising magazine programme. The year is unknown but this type of commercially-supported show was stopped in 1963 so it must date from before then.
