The Thames forts - summer 2003

On 6th July 2003 a small group of radio enthusiasts took a day trip on the Balmoral paddle steamer to visit two of the Thames forts that had housed offshore radio stations back in the sixties. The party included Gerry Zierler (DJ Guy Hamilton of Radio Essex and Radio 270) and Greg Bance (known as Roger Scott on Radios Essex, 270, 390 and Caroline North). The ship visited Shivering Sands and Red Sands but unfortunately, on this occasion, did not make it as far north as Knock John, Gerry and Greg's old Radio Essex home. These are Gerry's photos. Many thanks to him for allowing us to feature them here.
