Bob Read on shore-leave from Radio Caroline North

Radio Caroline North engineer, newsreader and occasional DJ Bob Read has sent us this photo, taken while on shore-leave in London.

He says: “Here is one from December 1966 in London's East End. Gordy Cruse and I were on a pub crawl, picked up two young ladies (Gordy has his arms on his AND mine), plus a couple of local eastenders, and were having a pint or two. It was a leave in early December we both took in London. I am on the left and Gordy between the “birds”!

For New Year's Eve 1966 Gordy and I were on the streets of Paris, sitting on the kerb drinking Old Crow bourbon out of the bottle and poured into the bottom of an Old Spice deodorant tube as we had no proper glasses. We got a lot of kisses and a few slaps - we were relying on Gordy's French, which was awful.”

Bob goes on to say: “I wish I could find the pictures of Tony Prince and me in Blackpool with The Bachelors during a very cold January night. In the back of a Daimler limo with all the singers, two Caroline degenerates and more women than a ladies volleyball team. What a night!” If you ever find the photo, Bob, please send it this way!
