Swinging Radio England Fun 50, 15th October 1966

Per Arne Berggren has very kindly provided a couple of incomplete Swinging Radio England charts (the other one is here). Those positions marked with an # have been identified with the help of Record Retailer magazine's comparison of the various offshore charts for this week (see here). A number of others have been identified by Brian Thompson (marked ^) or Kees Brinkerink (marked +) who have been listening to old off-air recordings. Kees has also provided a list of the new releases he heard played on three Roger Day shows (15th, 17th and 18th October). Our thanks to them all. Can anyone provide the rest of this chart?

i) Per noted Petula Clark at number 10 but Record Retailer's analysis of that week's offshore charts has You Can't Hurry Love by The Supremes at that position. Maybe a last minute change of mind?

ii) Per noted Cher's recording of Sunny at number 17. Record Retailer suggests that Georgie Fame's and Bobby Hebb's versions of the song also shared the position.

iii) On one of the airchecks Brian Thompson heard There Will Never Be Another You by Chris Montez announced as being at number 21. That was where it had been on the previous week's chart.

iv) Kees Brinkerink heard Roger Day play the Moody Blues single on 15th October. The audio quality wasn't perfect but he thought Roger said the song was number 24 or 34. Unfortunately the chart Brian Thompson compiled has different songs in both these position. Can anyone clarify?

v) Brian Thompson has listed Marvin Gaye at number 33; Kees Brinkerink has listed the McCoys.

vi) Swinging Radio England started playing Sunshine Superman way ahead of it becoming available in the UK. The single wasn't released in Britain until 2nd December 1966, five months after the USA.

Many thanks to Per A Berggren, Kees Brinkerink and Brian Thompson. Can anyone fill in the blanks or clarify the uncertainties?

The links from the songs on this page lead to the Amazon MP3 Store where you can hear short audio clips of the tracks and customers in the UK can buy downloads. Please see this note.
