Radio Caroline South Top 50,
11th July 1964

This chart was noted down by listener Ate Harsta and passed to The Pirate Radio Hall of Fame by Hans Knot. Our grateful thanks to both of them.

Following the merger between Radio Atlanta and Radio Caroline, the original Caroline ship had steamed to the Isle of Man to become Radio Caroline North (see here). Radio Atlanta changed its name to Radio Caroline South. Each ship continued to have its own chart. Despite the rebranding, Caroline South was still under the control of the original Atlanta management. This meant that Ken Evans was in charge of music policy. Whereas previously the Caroline Top 50s were virtually identical to the charts published in Melody Maker magazine, this week's Caroline South chart has a few variations.

This chart, as noted down by Ate, is slightly different to the one recorded by Hans Zegfeld which appears on The Stonewashed Collection website. Hans's version has a few of the songs in a different order and contains a brand new Beatles track which does not appear on Ate's chart at all. Both of them only list a Top 30 so presumably that is all that was broadcast that Saturday.

* Ate put a question mark against this track but the title is confirmed by Hans Zegfeld's version of the chart which appears on The Stonewashed Collection website.

Can anyone fill the gaps?

The links from the songs on this page lead to the Amazon MP3 Store where you can hear short audio clips of the tracks and customers in the UK can buy downloads. Please see this note.

Last week's Caroline Top 50 is here. We don't have next week's but the one after that is over the page.
