* Ian noted a track he called “Step Down” at number 16. We can't find a song of that name which was available in December 1966. Could it have been “(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone” and he mis-heard the title? There were two versions of that song out at the time - by The Monkees and The Flies. Although The Monkees went on to have great chart success, their TV show didn't start its run in the UK until 31st December so, at the time of this chart, they were an unknown group and in fact it was the version by The Flies which was playlisted on Radio London and Radio Caroline. Correspondent Gareth has suggested the mystery song may have been “Step Back” by Johnny Young & Kompany but this was not released until 20th or 27th January 1967. Can anyone remember?

Many thanks to Ian Kellock for sharing this chart. Can anyone fill the gaps by providing the missing information?

The links from the songs on this page lead to the Amazon MP3 Store where you can hear short audio clips of the tracks and customers in the UK can buy downloads. Please see this note.
