I'm A Believer |
The Monkees |
* Ian noted a track he called “Step Down” at number 32. We can't find a song of that name which was available in December 1966. Could it have been “(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone” and he mis-heard the title? There were two versions of that song out at the time - by The Monkees and The Flies. Although The Monkees went on to be the bigger of the two acts, they were already in the chart at number 40 so it is unlikely that they would have had two records listed in the same week. The Flies' record was playlisted on Radio London, Radio Scotland, Radio City and Radio Caroline so it is quite likely that Radio 270 followed suit. Correspondent Gareth has suggested an alternative theory, that the mystery song may have been “Step Back” by Johnny Young & Kompany but this was not released until 20th or 27th January 1967. Can anyone remember which was played? |
Many thanks to Ian Kellock for sharing this chart and to Per A Berggren for some extra information. Can anyone fill the gaps?
