Swinging Radio England Boss 40, 30th July 1966

Correspondent Brian Thompson has very kindly forwarded a couple of Swinging Radio England Boss 40s (the other one is here), given to him by Ian Richardson. This one was originally dated 6th August but, after listening to some off-air recordings, Brian thinks this chart is more likely to be from the previous week. We are very grateful to both Brian and Ian. Can anyone provide any more SRE charts?

We have has put together a Spotify playlist of this chart. You can find it here. Sadly a few of the songs are missing from the Spotify catalogue so it isn't quite complete but it is still a great listen and we hope it brings back good memories.

* This song was co-written by Sylvan Whittingham, also known as “Sylvan the stowaway”. There is more about her here. Writing on Facebook in 2024 she said: “(it was) my first published and recorded song. Music by Mike Bradley, lyrics by me.”

** Jonathan King's recording of Just Like A Woman is listed on Ian's other SRE chart which suggests that both his and the Manfred Mann versions of the song were played on the station.

Many thanks to Ian Richardson and Brian Thompson for this chart.
